Setting lotion without washing hair?

I have African American hair that is chemically straightened can I use setting lotion and plastic rollers to curl my hair overnight w/o washing it or will it break my hair? thanks

I would check with the beauty supply store. You probably need something alcohol free. There is a setting lotion for shampoo sets. A shampoo set only lasts two or three days, so the setting lotions are probably mild. I've had my hair set a few times and it was always washed. The cleanliness seems to help the hair curl better and stay curled longer. I just remembered, you need to wet your hair anyway so why not wash it? You don't use a great deal of the lotion so I doubt it can go on dry hair. But who knows what new products are available. That is why I suggest the beauty supply store so you can get what is most appropriate.

Wouldn't advise it. The hair will probably break as it has already been weakened by the chemical straightening. Why did you have it straightened if you want to curl it? Maybe try hot rollers. Using a leave-in conditioner helps too.

It wont break your hair, but it probably wont get you the results you want. Setting lotion is for wet sets. I personally used to spritz it with water, like from a spray bottle, and then use the setting or wrapping lotion. I would recommend if you dont want to go to bed with you hair damp, just roll your hair dry, and use a holding spray, the spray will help keep the curls in place.

Yes but you must dampen your hair before adding the setting lotion or you will end up with white junk in your hair. Never add a setting lotion to dry hair. Just dampened it. I always add Luster Pink Oil Moisturizing Lotion to my hair when I add the setting lotion to have some kind of shine to my hair. I use Lotta Body Setting Lotion.

No it won't break your hair, the set just won't hold up as long as it would with a setting lotion. They could have some type of spray bottle with a much lighter formula that you could use instead of traditional setting lotion.
