His hair is sooo long on the top and not on the sides and I want to trim it so that his curls aren't so high on the top of his head. His dad swears that if you cut a mixed or african american babies' hair that it will "kink" up. I think this is an old wives tale just like if your baby has curly hair and you cut it all off it will come back straight. His hair is going to be like whatever his genes have already predetermined right? So will it hurt to trim his hair so it isn't so long? Honestly people mistake him for a girl if he isn't wearing ALL blue!

It may be an old wives tale but I have always heard it is bad luck to cut a baby's hair before they are 1 year of age. I never had that problem, my kids hair little hair.....LOL

It is an old wives tale, although babies hair is still falling and growing, just like baby teeth, they also lose the baby hair. since he is a boy you can choose to cut his hair. it is up to you. if he is going to have kinks, then he will. you are right. enjoy.

My 9 month old has gotten his hair cut twice already. He was born with a lot of hair, and as it grew, it got really curly. People were constantly thinking he was a girl, even when he was dressed in boys clothes. Even though he got his hair cut, it still grows back in curly. He didn't lose his curls at all.

I don't see any problem with you trimming your son's hair. If it kinks up it is only because the hair will not be as heavy to weigh it down now that it is shorter, not because of any old wives tales. Good Luck

The kinkiness, curliness, straightness, etc, of the hair is determined from the shape of the hair as it emerges from the hair follicle. Cutting off the other end has nothing to do with it.
