have heard that being called "African-American" is sorta offensive because...

1. You may have not been from Africa.

2. Makes it seem your less of an "American"

People call me "white" all the time... (ex. White Girl)

I'm "White" but i'm originally from Europe. People call me white ... not "European American"... and i dont seem to care much. I know in a perfect world no one should call anyone anything. But thats not the case, if you got held up, and they asked you what someone looked like you say (ex. He was white, tan, with red hair)

I just say black, not African American because unless the person is from Africa, there's no reason to refer to Africa. Otherwise, it should be a given that they are American too so I don't see the point. Their skin is dark so saying 'black' is fine. My skin is light, calling it 'white' is fine too. I don't need to be called European American. Why complicate things.

it does seem wrong because I think anything with the term american at the end of it means you were born outside the country. I think it would be easier if we just called african americans americans. Report It

I always take caution in calling anyone anything. I just call them by their names and refer to their country. I dont wanna insult anyone.

I don't know anymore. It's hard to tell because it seems that everything is offensive these days, I suppose it depends on who you talk to. I guess if I was describing someone, I'd say light, tan or dark skin. I'm so intolerant of racism that I find it difficult to be politically correct too sometimes, it's tricky.
